CLIMATE IN NAGGAR, KULLU VALLEY, HIMACHAL PRADESH, NORTHERN INDIA

The mountain state Himachal Pradesh is situated in the northern India. This state is lucky to have the mighty and forbidding Himalayas ranges running across it. Amazingly beautiful valleys extend between the ranges, and in their curves plentiful rivers are flowing and lakes that breath out freshness are dreaming. The climate in the mountain area highly depends on the altitude above the sea level.

The climate in Kullu valley where our center is situated is similar to Russian. Winter is full of snow, but not as freezing as in Russia. Springs comes earlier, and autumn goes away later. First snowfall may be observed in December or January, and in February snow already gone. Summer is a wonderful season, very warm, but not hot. While Indian valleys suffer from unbearable summer heat, most of areas of Himachal Pradesh take delight in warm weather, and some places even retain a bit of chill. That is why in summer foreign tourists, having spent winter in Goa, flock in here in large numbers.
The similarity of Kullu valley climate to European and Northern Asian, Russian in particular, provides very beneficial conditions for undergoing Panchakarma treatment as well as other therapeutic, health-improving and cleansing programs for patients from Russia and other countries with the similar climate. The key reason is that when you move to the area with similar climate your body does not have to waste huge amount of energy to acclimatize itself. So this energy is fully given to detoxification, health-improving and rejuvenation programs. But if you move to the area with the climate that is completely different from your native country (for example to Kerala in the south of India), your body has to waste most of its energy to adapt itself to new climate conditions which noticeably affects the effectiveness of the body processes launched by Panchakarma.
In Kullu valley, where our center is situated, average summer temperature is +25-27 degrees Centigrade. What a wonderful summer!

Monsoon, or rainy season, that as late as in early 2000-s had strictly defined time frame starting in the second half of June and ending in the first half or middle of August, now does not exist at all. Rains can unexpectedly come in any month. Cloudy weather, fogs and intermittent rain can hold for several days or end fast and give place to the beaming sun. The same we have in Russia. Speaking about latest time, 2010 and 2011 were rich in absolutely unprecedented weather conditions. When Russia was melting in unbearable heat, this valley enjoyed warm and comfortable, sometimes even cool weather to the fabulous joy of our Russian patients.
Taking into account all that was mentioned above, it is easy to come to the right conclusion that the SEASON when our center receives patients for cleansing (Panchakarma), treatment, health-improving and rejuvenation programs is FROM APRIL THROUGH OCTOBER. It worth mentioning that in April and October it can still be cold, especially after sunset and before sunrise (that is in the evening, at night, in the morning): the temperature can drop as low as +5-8 degrees Centigrade. Nevertheless, during the daytime, especially after several sunny days in a row, you can wear summer clothes. But if you cannot bear cold weather at all, it is better not to come in April or October.

But even if you plan to come in other months (from May through September), you should always bring with you very warm clothes (sweaters, thermal underwear, warm sportswear or trekking suits, woolen socks, running shoes, jackets or windbreakers, a cap etc). Maybe you won't need this kind of clothes, but you should have it just in case. Mountain weather tends to change very rapidly. During the daytime under the sun it can be warm as in summer, but already after a few hours, especially if rain comes, it gets really cold. And the next day, if it is sunny, you can wear your summer dress again. Though if it has been raining for several days, even in June temperature can go down as low as in April: +8 degrees Centigrade.
Below our patient Tatiana Dokuchaeva from Moscow describes how she has chosen the place to undergo her Panchakarma treatment:

«All the spring I have been looking for a right place to undergo a full Panchakarma course. That place had to satisfy special demands: the climate should be not too hot and not too rainy, procedures should be of high quality, I mean real Panchakarma, not some "touristic entertainment", doctors should be professional + Yoga classes + opportunities for hiking + calm and silent place, not a big city. You can see, I has quite lots of demands, and everybody kept telling me I want too much…

But God helped me to find this amazing place, Ayurveda & Yoga Center in Naggar. Should I say, that I got not only what I wished, but much, much more...»
