LECTURE №4, SUMMARY

In continuation of Lecture No3 find below more information about Kapha dosha.

They are heavy most of the time, difficult to move. The more they sit, the more they want to sit. Their energy is like frozen ice, they must push themselves or be pushed by somebody; wouldn't go on exercise easily with people around them. Kapha needs stimulation, but when it's done it can work a lot because it has lots of energy.

Tendency to stagnation: if Kapha alone, all process of body would go slower and slower; liquids stagnate in some part of the body. Conservative people: don't want to change. Don't like travels and new things. Very few can push themselves on their own; they need influence from the inside.

How Kapha goes out of balance:
  • Accumulation: putting on weight, usually fat tissues, difficult to lose it; it is possible but it needs efforts to do so.
  • Coldness: colder and colder, catch cold: lot of sticky mucus (the more mucus, the longer the cold lasts). Major seat of Kapha: RESPIRATORY TRACTS (from stomach to head). Excess of Kapha must be removed, because head would feel heavy. Cleaning this area helps with clarity of mind. Aggravated Kapha have too much mucus in the stomach.
  • Heaviness: getting weight, but also psychic level: apathy, no emotion, can't really think.
  • Oiliness: in combination with cold, all liquids get sticky, thick and stop moving. Saliva gets stick. Mucus very sticky also. Kapha constipation type: going too slow (toilets every 3 days or so). Can lead to skin problems (toxins).
  • Slow: everything is stagnant. Cold can get chronic and mucus fills every area of respiratory tract. Swelling: water is kept in the body, as for lymph trouble for example.

Kapha is hard to get out of balance, but in case it is hard to get it back to balance (takes time).

Emotions: depressions, psychic disbalanced (afraid of outside world, don't want to see anything or anybody new), childish attachment (ask for people to take care of them, don't want to do anything by themselves); they become attached to old thins, friends, very greedy. They stop taking care of their houses.

DOSHAS DOMINATION

During the day
  • From dawn until 10am: Kapha
  • From 10 to 2-3 pm: Pitta
  • From 2-3 to 6pm: Vata
  • From 6 to 10pm: Kapha
  • From 10 to 2-3 am: Pitta
  • From 2-3 to sunrise: Vata

If you wake up while Kapha is dominating, you'll feel heavy all day, if you do it while Vata dominates, you'll feel lighter and active throughout the day.

Biggest meal of the day should be at lunch because it's Pitta time. Best time to go to bed is Kapha time (impossible to have good sleep when Vata is dominating).

During the seasons
  • Vata is aggravated during cold, dry, clear, windy periods.
  • Pitta is aggravated by hottest period of the year (summer)
  • Kapha is aggravated by winter: slow, muddy, foggy, rainy weathers.

About climates
It influences constitutions of the nation:
Ex: long winters aggravate Kapha, but Kapha goes well because it has enough fat to deal with this type of climate (see examples for Tibetans); hot climates aren't good for Pitta: would get Pitta diseases.

Lifetime periods
  • Childhood: Kapha
  • Adult: Pitta
  • Older: Vata

Kapha kids would get lots of sickness while they're children if you're pay attention; Pitta would get sick during adult lifetime (heart attacks and brain hemorrhages happens especially during this period); Vata would have worst period when they're old because it's Vata time.

Pregnancy: Kapha dominates

Kapha people: all aggravated but are the best bearers of pregnancy.

Pitta and Vata could get better during this particular time (due to Kapha domination).

Vata is the less fertile dosha, they have lack of energy. If Kapha is too much aggravated, it can't go well, everything would go too slow.

Pitta women: inflammations in the uterus (bleeding).

This lady "area" is ruled by nervous system, so if she feels wrong about husband etc, she would have trouble with menstruation, conception… Most important thing: good partner.

SITUATIONS WHICH WILL AGGRAVATE DOSHAS (circumstances, way of life)

Every dosha likes what aggravates them.

  • Vata likes to do 100 things at a time, also likes extremes sports etc... They need moderation. Their jobs would be waiters, travel agents, everything that includes travelling and meeting lots of people. The faster the movement, the faster it aggravates Vata (more aggravation with a flight than by walking). Big jetlag is no good for Vata also, and the more high altitude, the more Vata.
  • Pitta tends to work a lot, without breaks, vacations or enough sleep. They never stop working and thinking; non-stop activity leads to aggravation, so Pitta people need to stop their flow of activity from time to time; they must have distraction, relaxation and rest.
  • Kapha is aggravated by doing nothing, so they need to push themselves on doing lots of things. Early retirement aggravates Kapha, the more they sit, the more they're depressed, they need to get interests from the outside.

SYSTEMS OF MAINTENING OR GETTING DOSHAS INTO BALANCE

  • Diet: whatever we put inside ourselves will work or not
  • Herbs (and spices)
  • How to detoxify yourself at home: pollution, negative emotions, bad things we eat or toxins will manifest as disease (depends also from which energy your parents gave you at conception).
  • Proper exercise: very different for every dosha. Vata must stretch and relax; Kapha needs intensive program etc...
  • Certain home treatments: showers, bath, oil massages…
  • Color therapy
  • Aromatherapy
  • Gems

DIET: 3 rules for everybody.

  • Avoid Amagenic Food
AMA = toxins = indigested food which gets toxic; after some time can move with blood and cause diseases. Nowadays, lots of Amagenic food:

  • Food which spoils naturally quickly: can food (even homemade)
